Two of Manchester United’s players have been nominated for the Premier League’s September 2023 Goal of the Month award.
It was not, by any means, an ideal month for the Reds in the top flight, with Erik ten Hag’s side losing three of our four fixtures.
There were a few memorable moments though and the excellent strikes by Hannibal, against Brighton & Hove Albion, and Bruno Fernandes, at Burnley, have deservedly made it on to the shortlist.
Watch Hannibal’s brilliant first senior goal for United again.
Hannibal’s long-range fizzer may have only been a consolation in the 3-1 defeat to the Seagulls, but it will live long in the memory for the Tunisia international as it was his first senior goal in United’s colours.
Our no.46 picked up a pass from Lisandro Martinez in a pocket of space, chested it down and let fly beyond Albion keeper Jason Steele, in front of the Stretford End.
Fernandes’s winner at Burnley was scored at the opposite end of Turf Moor to our travelling fans, but it was enough to secure all three points in east Lancashire.
The United captain was found expertly by Jonny Evans’s laser-accurate ball and he volleyed it home as the Reds ended a run of three straight defeats in all competitions.
While Hannibal is, of course, a rookie when it comes to this award, Bruno has won twice before. Cristiano Ronaldo was the last Red to be recognised, back in March 2022, for his stunning effort against Tottenham Hotspur.
Six other goals are on the Premier League’s shortlist, from Jhon Duran (Aston Villa), Leandro Trossard (Arsenal), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Nottingham Forest), Miguel Almiron (Newcastle United), Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) and Julian Alvarez (Manchester City).
