Harry Kane inspires Bayern’s turnaround – but he’s not the only England star smashing it in Champions League

Harry Kane’s stunning first season in Germany is showing no sign of slowing down.

The English striker led the line for Bayern Munich in their Champions League last-16 clash with Lazio, a tie where they’d need to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

Thankfully for Thomas Tuchel’s side, Kane was on hand to ease their worries and send them through.

Alongside a goal from Thomas Muller, the 30-year-old bagged two goals to earn a 3-0 win to send Bayern into the quarter-finals.

Those goals took Kane’s tally to 33 for the season, with 27 goals in the Bundesliga and six in the Champions League.

With England gearing up for Euro 2024, it bodes well for Gareth Southgate that Kane isn’t the only star to shine in the Champions League this term.

As well as Kane’s six goals and three assists, three other England stars have hit seven goal involvements in this season’s competition.

These include Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden who have scored four goals, three goals and three goals respectively in Europe’s top competition this term.

For Kane, one eye will surely be on breaking the records set by himself.

Having scored 32 goals in all competitions last term, Kane has now surpassed the total reached in his final season with Tottenham before completing his £100million move to Bavaria.

Not only has he beaten last season’s total, but he’s done it in 16 games fewer having played 33 times this term and needing 49 games to reach it in 2022/23.

Kane’s 33rd goal of the season also means that this term is now the joint-third most fruitful campaign of his career.

Ex-Arsenal star Perry Groves believes Manchester City’s Erling Haaland gets in every team except Bayern Munich because of Harry Kane

Just two more goals would see the striker go level with his second-highest goal tally of 35 in a season which he achieved in 2016/17, while he will also have his sights set on recording his best campaign ever.

Kane’s best season came in 2017/18 when he scored a staggering 41 goals in all competitions, but with just eight strikes needed to match that tally, it would take a brave person to bet against the England skipper beating his records by the end of the season.

However, the prize he really craves is a major trophy having incredibly gone through his stellar career without lifting a piece of silverware.

With the Champions League final to be played at the home of English football, Kane said: “Wembley means an awful lot to me as a player and a person and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dreaming of getting there and winning the trophy.”
