Wins have been hard to come by for the Spurs lately. It’s about to get tougher.

The Spurs enter Friday’s matchup with the Pelicans riding a 13-game losing streak. They will look to snap that streak without Victor Wembanyama, who will miss the first game of his rookie season due to a hip injury.

Wembanyama has lived up to the hype through his first 18 games. He’s leading the Spurs with 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, and his 2.7 blocks average trails only Nic Claxton for the highest mark in the league.

How long will the Spurs be without Wembanyama? Here’s everything we know about his injury.

What is Victor Wembanyama’s injury?

Wembanyama is dealing with right hip tightness.

The Spurs initially listed Wembanyama as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Hawks with the injury. He went on to play, finishing with 21 points (on 9-for-16 shooting), 12 rebounds and four blocks in 29 minutes.

After the game, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said Wembanyama might not play against the Pelicans.

“We’re trying to protect him. He may not play tomorrow. We’ll see how his hip came out of this one.”

The Spurs have a slightly better offensive rating with Wembanyama on the bench so far this season, but they’ve been significantly worse defensively in those minutes, giving up 6.3 more points per 100 possessions.

How long will Victor Wembanyama be out?

The Spurs have ruled Wembanyama out for Friday’s game against the Pelicans.

The Spurs face the Pelicans on the second night of a back-to-back. They will then have a bit of a break, their next game coming on Wednesday, Dec. 6 against the Timberwolves. Wembanyama’s availability for that game is currently unknown.
