Revenge of the sprinters? Jasper Philipsen and Co. watched in dismay as a four-man breakaway held off the peloton on Stage 18, with Kasper Asgreen victorious. With Stage 19 suited for another breakaway to last the distance, the fast men will be determined to keep things under control. So how can you watch Friday’s action? Here’s everything you need to know about Stage 19 at the Tour de France.
Philipsen slammed for ‘bullying tactic’ after cutting up Eenkhoorn
After the sprinters were somehow denied on Thursday, they will be extra keen to stop the breakaway winning again on Stage 19 at the 2023 Tour de France.
An undulating trip from Moirans-en-Montagne to Poligny presents few challenges, with the route set to skirt around the Jura Mountains and take in views of the lakes instead.
Things should start getting exciting with the pass of the Cote d’Ivory with 30km remaining – a palatable 2.3km at 5.9%. Will it come back together for the sprinters after the climb? Or will we see another glorious day for the break?
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) only needs to stay upright for three more stages and a second yellow jersey is his. The Dane leads Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) by an almost unassailable 7’35” in the general classification.
