Stay up-to-date with all the latest news on injured and recovering players from across Major League Baseball.

The Angels will play it safe with the cracked fingernail on Ohtani’s right middle finger and have the two-way star take the mound Tuesday at San Diego instead of Monday. More>

Kershaw played catch on Saturday afternoon for the first time since he exited his last start against Colorado due to left shoulder inflammation. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his next start, which was originally scheduled for Monday against Pittsburgh, “doesn’t look promising.” More>

The Rays placed McClanahan on the 15-day injured list Saturday with mid-back tightness. The lefty had to leave his start against the Royals on June 22 after 3 2/3 innings due to the injury, and he lasted just three innings Friday against Seattle, allowing four runs. More>

Masataka Yoshida, Red Sox

Yoshida was in clear pain after taking a 102 mph fastball to the upper part of his right calf in the seventh inning on Saturday afternoon. He stayed in the game to run the bases, but he was removed in the following inning with what the Red Sox called a right lower leg contusion. More>

Corbin Carroll and Merrill Kelly, D-backs

Carroll left Thursday afternoon’s game with right shoulder soreness after experiencing discomfort during an at-bat in the third inning. He is considered day to day and was out of the starting lineup on Friday and Saturday in Anaheim.

Kelly (lower right leg blood clot) played catch out to 120 feet on Thursday and was scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday. More>

Framber Valdez, Jeremy Peña, José Urquidy, Yordan Alvarez and Michael Brantley, Astros

Valdez was scheduled to start Sunday but will instead be skipped while he deals with what the team called right ankle soreness. Astros manager Dusty Baker said Valdez “sprained his ankle” in his start against the Mets on June 20.

Peña was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game Saturday with a stiff neck.

Urquidy (right shoulder inflammation) threw 34 pitches in his fourth and final bullpen session Friday in Arlington without incident. He’s expected to face hitters in live batting practice next week in Houston, moving him closer to a Minor League rehab assignment.

Alvarez (right oblique strain) is taking swings off a tee in the batting cage and hitting soft toss. He said on Thursday he was feeling good. Alvarez has been sidelined since straining his oblique while swinging the bat on June 8.

Brantley (right shoulder surgery), who hasn’t played in a big league game since June 26, 2022, is scheduled to take live batting practice next week in Houston. More>

Lewis suffered a left oblique strain running down the first-base line on a groundout in the third inning of Saturday’s game. Manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game that Lewis would require a stint on the injured list, though that transaction had not been made official as of Saturday evening. More>

Tarirk Skubal and Eduardo Rodriguez, Tigers

The Tigers’ rotation is about to take two major steps back toward normalcy with Skubal (left flexor tendon surgery) and Rodriguez (left index finger pulley rupture) penciled in to start Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at home against Oakland. More>

Darvish, who hasn’t pitched since June 21 due to an illness, will not start in the series finale like originally hoped. Getting the start Monday against the Angels “could be a stretch the way he’s feeling,” manager Bob Melvin said. More>

Miller was pulled from Friday’s start in the fourth inning with a right middle finger blister. Miller mentioned that he’d been experiencing the issue in recent weeks but not as substantially as Friday. Though the rookie is confident that he’ll make his next scheduled start, manager Scott Servais was more concerned. More>

Fried (left forearm strain) threw live batting practice Friday for the first time since going on the IL. How he recovers will determine how close he is to beginning a Minor League rehab assignment. More>

Nestor Cortes, Carlos Rodón and Aaron Judge, Yankees

Cortes (left rotator cuff strain) threw from a bullpen mound for the first time on Friday in St. Louis, coming away encouraged from his 20-pitch outing. Boone said that Cortes’ next bullpen session will take place at Yankee Stadium, possibly on Monday.

Rodón (left elbow strain and back stiffness) made what is expected to be his final Minor League rehab start on July 1 for High-A Hudson Valley, permitting one hit over 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The Yankees are eyeing July 7 for Rodón’s season debut, when he would face the Cubs at Yankee Stadium.

Judge (right great toe sprain) resumed baseball activities on Wednesday in Oakland, playing catch for the first time since injuring his toe at Dodger Stadium on June 3. More>

Michael Conforto, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Mike Yastrzemski, Giants

Conforto tweaked his hamstring while making a play in right field in the first inning of the Giants’ 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday. An MRI exam on Friday morning revealed a mild fascia strain in the hamstring area, but Conforto managed to avoid landing on the 10-day injured list.

Wade has been dealing with back/side tightness for the past 10 days and was not in the lineup Saturday.

Yastrzemski (left hamstring strain) is “trending in a good direction” and is on track to return to the active roster as early as the week of July 3. More>

Johnny Cueto and Edward Cabrera, Marlins

Cueto (right biceps tightness; left ankle sprain) will make a fifth rehab start on Monday, throwing either 90 pitches or six innings.

Cabrera (right shoulder impingement) threw a bullpen session Friday for the first time since being placed on the injured list on June 17. He threw 22 pitches — all fastballs — and said he feels “super great,” via interpreter Luis Dorante Jr. More>

Quintana (recovery from rib surgery) struggled Friday in his fourth rehab start, lasting only 2 2/3 innings due to an elevated pitch count. That puts his return date in question, as the Mets could still activate him next week in Arizona or decide to push him back until after the All-Star break. More>

After throwing roughly three innings in a live bullpen session Wednesday in Dunedin, Ryu (Tommy John surgery recovery) is now scheduled to pitch in his first Minor League game on Tuesday. This will come with either the FCL Blue Jays or Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays. More>

Hayes was placed on the IL on Wednesday, retroactive to June 25, with lower back inflammation. He spent a brief stretch on the IL last season with a similar injury — a mid-back muscle strain. More>
