Following in the footsteps of the Spanish federation, the Supercoppa Italiana takes the plunge into a four-team mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia as Inter and Lazio clash in the semfinals.
In 2019, the Spanish federation expanded the Supercopa de Espana to four teams, creating a knockout bracket hosted in Riyadh which featured the past year’s La Liga winner and runner-up alongside the Copa del Rey winner and runner-up. The Italian federation has copied that model exactly, with this year’s competition the first of its new iteration.
Last year’s Coppa Italia winners Inter meet the league runners-up Lazio in this semifinal, while defending Serie A champions Napoli are drawn against the Cup runners-up Fiorentina.
Inter are the defending champions of this competition, defeating AC Milan 3-0 last year in Riyadh, the final edition of the old one-off format. Lazio are in the Supercoppa Italiana for the first time since they won it in 2019, defeating Juventus 3-1.

Lazio has given Inter serious trouble over the past few seasons, winning four and drawing two in the last 11 meetings across all competitions. Even in defeat they’re up to the task on the whole, with their most recent meeting ending 2-0 to Inter despite Lazio creating plenty of chances themselves but failing to find the net.
In addition, Lazio get Ciro Immobile back in full, as their regular striker had been missing since late December with a hamstring injury. He got 10 minutes off the bench against Lecce on Sunday and should be set to return, pushing Valentin Castellanos to the bench.

While the moneyline might be a bit risky in any direction here, Lazio to pick up a result is a better way to approach the match. It seems unlikely that they would pull out a win, but with Ciro Immobile back, you’d back them to give Inter a good run.
