Few things are better than college football, and in the midwest, it reigns king. There are few better days in Iowa than when the Cy-Hawk series commences.
Dating back to 1894, the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry is one of the oldest college football rivalries. The Hawkeyes have stood on top of it, winning 47 of 70 matchups, including seven of the last eight. Iowa also has the latest victory, winning 20-13 last year in a season that ended with a Big Ten championship game appearance.
But as each program strives to win their respective conferences and advance to the first 12-team playoffs, it’ll be a bit more difficult to do this season. The loss of the Pac-12 means four teams each have joined the Big Ten and Big 12, making the conferences that much harder to win. There’s little room for error.
But the end of the season is a ways away, and Week 2 brings one of the biggest games of the year with the Cy-Hawk rivalry.
