IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Taylor Knibb joins professional cycling team

Olympic medalist and 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Taylor Knibb has announced that she will be joining a professional cycling team, with her first race coming just before WTCS Montreal.

The 25 year old, who most recently won IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder and is ranked World #4 in short course triathlon and PTO World #5, has joined Trek-Segafredo, a US based UCI WorldTour team.

With 14 riders from six countries on the experienced team already, Knibb will hope she can help the squad make its way to the top of the rankings along with legendary team director Ina-Yoko Teutenberg.

New chapter for Knibb

Whilst still competing in triathlon and with an eye on improving her 16th place finish from the Tokyo Olympics in Paris next year, Knibb shared on her social media that joining the professional cycling outfit was a decision she was excited to make.

“I am thrilled to announce that I have joined Trek Segafredo. I am grateful for this opportunity to test myself at the highest level of professional cycling and learn about all the ways I can continue to improve and develop. My first race will be the US National Time Trial Championships on June 22nd.”

Thanking all of her triathlon sponsors for making the opportunity possible, Knibb also extended her gratitude to coach Ian O’Brien and agent Patrick Lemieux, the husband of Gwen Jorgensen, who is likely to have been instrumental in this decision as a former professional cyclist.

“Ian O’Brien and Patrick Lemieux: thank you for all the work you did to make this possible. Along with Erin Carson, thank you three for your continued support, enthusiasm, patience and dedication.”
