The Ironman Cairns team is pleased to announce that the event is set to host the IM Asia-Pacific Championship in 2024. The 2024 event returns to Cairns on Sunday 16 June, with athletes from across Australia and around the world to test themselves on the course.
Athletes across all age-groups will be racing for Asia-Pacific Championship titles, with the regional championship also an added incentive for the top professional athletes in the sport to head to Australia.
As well as being the Asia-Pacific Championship in 2024, Ironman Cairns is a part of the brand-new IM Pro Series, which will see top professional athletes go head-to-head across at events around the world.
The IM Pro Series will see athletes racing for a US$1.7million season ending bonus pool, including June’s Ironman Cairns. Professionals racing at IM Cairns will also race for a share of a US$150,000 event prize purse, on top of the season ending amount.
Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Oceania for The IM Group, said that the team was excited to be hosting the IM Asia-Pacific Championship in Cairns again this year.
“Ironman Cairns is the race in paradise, and we love bringing athletes from around the world to the region each year, allowing them to experience an incredible race in an outstanding location,” said Meyer. “By hosting the Asia-Pacific Championship again this year athletes will be racing for a key regional championship, bringing additional prestige to an event that is already held in such high regard.
“With this year’s event also being a part of the inaugural IM Pro Series, we look forward to welcoming additional professionals to Cairns, and showcasing this event to a global audience,” he said.
