The latest edition of SmackDown saw the United States Championship finally change hands. Although Santos Escobar was slated to challenge Austin Theory for the US Championship, he was eliminated from the match before it even started due to suffering a sneak attack from Theory backstage and at the entrance ramp.

This allowed Rey Mysterio to take Escobar’s spot and challenge Theory for the Championship. As much as the WWE Universe loves Mysterio, they think another star is much more deserving of the title opportunity. The star in question is none other than LA Knight.

Santos Escobar earned a title shot at Austin Theory’s US Championship after defeating Rey Mysterio in the US Championship invitational tournament. However, during a backstage interview on SmackDown, Escobar was viciously attacked by Theory. Despite the attack, Escobar was allowed to compete. But Theory attacked him again during his entrance.
Ultimately, Rey Mysterio faced off against Austin Theory. Rey hit the 619 followed by a splash in the final seconds to pull off an upset victory and become the new US Champion. As happy as fans are to see Austin Theory’s reign come to an end, they wish the opportunity had gone to LA Knight.

Let’s face it, at this juncture in his career, Rey Mysterio has nothing left to prove. The Hall of Famer is a three-time World Champion. On the other hand, LA Knight is beginning to get a push in his career now. His surging popularity among the fans makes him a must-see star on the roster. Besides, the 40-year-old won the 20-man Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam.
Although his win was a good start to his push, putting a Championship title on Knight has been long overdue. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see when the former NXT Million Dollar Champion finally wins his first-ever singles Championship on the main roster.
