When the fans in attendance at the WWE WrestleMania XL Kickoff show saw Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson come out to face Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins on stage, no one thought he would go full-heel mode. Not only did he assert his power as a member of the Board at TKO, but he also slapped Cody Rhodes. Being one of the biggest babyfaces in the WWE, this move came as a shock to the fans.

At the Daytona 500 series, Johnson attained the chance to don the role of Grand Marshal. The race, which was supposed to take place on Sunday, was postponed to Monday because of bad weather. While present at the World Center of Racing, he did a small interview. He talked about his WWE run, among other things. Johnson said, “Being the villain is the greatest thing in the world,” when asked why he turned heel.
The last time Johnson was heel was back in 2003 when he had his iconic match with Hulk Hogan. Not only did he talk about himself, but he also mentioned Denny Hamlin, the best-known NASCAR villain in recent years.

Johnson said, “I was aware of Denny getting booed and also impressed at how he’s embraced it.” He continued why he wanted to play the heel rather than the good guy. The Rock said, “Everyone wants to be loved and cheered and considered the hero, which is great, and it’s natural; it’s human psychology and desire.” He explained how if you grabbed the opportunity of embracing the dark side, it could pay massive dividends.
The Rock says there are better opportunities as a heel than there are as a babyface
Continuing on the topic of being a heel, Johnson said, “It also gives the opportunity to say and do a lot of things people can’t, and a lot of people wish they can, but they don’t.” This statement proved true during the last episode of SmackDown, where Johnson roasted the crowd in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Finally, near the end, he acknowledged that he and Hamlin were the two bad guys in their respective fields. He said, “So you don’t have to; let me and Denny do the talking and get the boos.” This clearly indicates that the Hollywood star has embraced his heel persona and is enjoying it to some extent.
