James sets all-time minutes record on same night he suffers heaviest loss of career

LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leader in minutes played on the same night he suffered the heaviest loss of his professional career.

James has now played 66,319 minutes, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s total of 66,297 minutes.

But it was not a night for celebration as James broke the record as the Los Angeles Lakers were wiped 138-94 by the Philadelphia 76ers.

James, 38, led the team scoring with 18 points but didn’t get a rebound for just the fourth time in his career.

He said afterwards that “a lot” needs to change as the Lakers fell to 10-8 for the season.

Asked to expand on what needs to change, James just responded: “A lot.”

Anthony Davis offered more ahead of back-to-back road trips this week against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday and Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.

“A lot of quick shots, one-pass shots, no-pass shots. They started making a lot of shots. And when their lead kind of opened up a little bit – 15, 20, 25 – I think we all tried to be the hero to make the team come back instead of just sticking with it.”

Davis said the team will look back at the film and try to assess what went wrong before they move onto the next game.

“There’s an opportunity for us to talk about it. And look at it. This is what we can’t have,” Davis said.

“But you have to quickly flush it because we have another one on Wednesday, right? We can’t harp on it too long. It’s good to watch the film and see what we can get better at on both ends. But then you have to get ready for a game Wednesday and Thursday.

“So, you know, we’ve got to look at it, embrace it, own it. Guys don’t take it personal for whatever’s said in the film and then move on from it.

“I know that in the course of the game, we’ve challenged each other. If someone’s not playing well or someone is, what’s the word, BS’ing I guess, we’ve been calling people out.

“And I don’t think no one took it personal. But obviously in the course of the game, you’ve got to forget about it and just go play.

“And when you don’t have to go anywhere and you’re sitting there and watching film, it could be a little different. It’s also in front of the entire team, the coaching staff. So I don’t know. I don’t think we have guys who probably take it personal. But if they do, that’s probably another conversation.”

Joel Embiid came up big for the 76ers with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Tyrese Maxey also provided 31 points and eight assists as the 76ers moved to 12-5.

Defending champions Denver Nuggets rallied to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 113-104.

The Nuggets, who were missing key starters Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon, trailed by 11 at the start of the fourth quarter.

But former Clippers Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan sparked a 22-6 scoring run that saw the Nuggets move ahead.

Jackson finished with 35 points while DeAndre Jordan had 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 31 points.
