Liverpool vs Arsenal lineups, starting 11s, team news for Premier League match: Salah to start title test

Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta will go head-to-head as Premier League title rivals as Arsenal travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on December 23.

The Gunners are leading the way at the top of the Premier League table with a one-point advantage over Klopp’s Reds ahead of this crucial clash. Aston Villa’s surprise draw at home to Sheffield United on Friday means either Arsenal or Liverpool will be top of the table on Christmas Day.

A midweek Carabao Cup quarterfinal win over West Ham will have boosted Liverpool’s confidence even further, although Arsenal will have felt the benefit of an extra break.

There are some injury concerns for either side for this match, although it seems the picture for each squad is largely unchanged. Mohamed Salah will almost certainly start, though, having only appeared as a substitute against the Hammers this week.

Liverpool vs Arsenal lineups

Klopp and Arteta have benefitted from protecting certain players ahead of this game with Arsenal not in action since their 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Liverpool’s win over West Ham came via a rotated starting XI with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson given the night off and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz and Salah featuring off the bench.

All five are expected to start against Arsenal with Salah adding a fifth goal against the Hammers for his first domestic Anfield goal since mid-November.

Here’s the projected starting lineups for this Premier League clash at Anfield on December 23.

Liverpool starting 11

Arsenal lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas — Szoboszlai, Endo, Jones — Salah, Nunez, Diaz.

Injured: Matip, Thiago, Jota, Robertson, Mac Allister, Bajcetic.
Suspended: None

Klopp will roll out his Premier League big guns for this game with his injury list largely unchanged ahead of the festive period. Netherlands international Ryan Gravenberch is back in training and is expected to be available, but Curtis Jones is tipped to retain his starting role following his fine performance against West Ham.

The game comes too soon for injured pair Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota, who are not far off a return.

Arsenal starting 11

Arsenal lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Rice, Havertz — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Injured: Vieira, Tomiyasu, Partey, Timber, Jorginho (doubtful), Elneny (doubtful).
Suspended: None

Arteta has not confirmed any new injuries ahead of this game and could stick with an unchanged starting line up.

If he does opt to keep faith with the same XI, it will mean four changes from their 2-2 draw at Anfield in April with the additions of David Raya, William Saliba, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

Thomas Partey is not ready to return, while Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are doubts.
