Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said that midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s knee injury “doesn’t look good.”
While he did not need to be substituted until 57 minutes into the match, he did then have the wound stitched up, and he is not expected to play for The Reds on Saturday against Crystal Palace on Saturday – a game live on TNT Sports.
“Macca doesn’t look good, so we have to see day by day,” Klopp said on Friday at a press conference.
“They were pretty hopeful after the game that it was not serious.”
He continued: “I don’t expect him to be ready for [Saturday]. I don’t know about Thursday or Sunday after that, so it’s pretty much stop and go. We have to see.”
Liverpool play next Thursday in the UEFA Europa League against Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, having already qualified for the next round, meaning Mac Allister is unlikely to be risked if there is any doubt about his fitness, but the following Sunday is a potentially vital tie against Manchester United at Anfield.
One player who could be fit for Saturday is Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who is recovering from a hamstring problem.
Klopp said: “Looks good. I don’t know if good enough for [Saturday], I have to check that.”
Another player who is definitely absent is defender Joel Matip, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. The German said that he expected that it would not prevent him from having his contract, which expires in the summer, extended further, but he did not guarantee anything.
He said: “I’m pretty sure the club will show their class. He deserves all the support from us and he will get it,” while discussing a contract extension he added: “I would say so, but it’s not my decision.”
