Major Botch Shows Seth Rollins Should Have Beaten Damian Priest Before Drew McIntyre’s Cash-in

The Money in the Bank PLE at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, had a number of impressive spots. With multiple major stars and titles on the line, the matches were action-packed. However, the show was not devoid of botches. While some were minor and others were funny, one changed the dynamic of a match and arguably soured the mood. This took place during the WWE World Heavyweight title match between Seth Rollins and Damian Priest.

The match between both men was filled with tension. Not only was the title on the line, but if Priest lost, he would have to quit Judgment Day. However, if Rollins lost, he would never get a title shot as long as Priest was champion. Another looming threat was the fact that Drew McIntyre won the MITB briefcase.

During the latter end of the match, Seth Rollins had Priest down for the count. While Priest was supposed to kick out as Drew McIntyre’s music hit, the World Heavyweight champion did not kick out. The camera angle clearly showed the referee counting to three but pulled away at the last moment.

While Damian Priest did not kick out, the ref had to make it look like he did. Unfortunately, the camera angle showed that Priest did not kick out as the ref claimed. Soon, McIntyre’s music hit, and the Scottish warrior came out to cash in his briefcase.

It was clear that the botch was due to McIntyre’s music not hitting on time. The timing botch for McIntyre’s theme caused the overall botch, which the referee had to try to save. Rollins would have walked out the champion if the ref’s hand came down for the third count. However, CM Punk was also ready to interfere.

As mentioned earlier, losing the match has now prevented Rollins from challenging for the title as long as Priest is the champion. Not only did CM Punk prevent McIntyre from winning, but also prevented Rollins. After the match ended, Rollins recreated his reaction from SurvivorSeries 2023. He looked frustrated by Punk being at ringside.

This could lead to a triple-threat feud between McIntyre, Rollins, and the Second City Saint. Only time will tell if the WWE puts all three men in a single feud or go with them one at a time. This will be interesting for fans to see. The build-up has been going on since Punk returned to the WWE. What did you think of the botch? Tell us in the comments.
