Man United vs Copenhagen live score, updates, highlights, lineups and result from Champions League match

OLD TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER — Manchester United face FC Copenhagen in the third game of the UEFA Champions League group stages at Old Trafford.

After back-to-back defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, this is a must-win if United have any hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages in the new year.

United sit bottom of their group and will now have to face the champions of Denmark, a team that put up a brave fight in their narrow 2-1 defeat to Munich last time out.

The good news for United is that after losing six of their first 10 games of the season, they have won successive matches with slim victories over Brentford and Sheffield United.

But how will they perform as the pressure piles on?

The Sporting News is following the match live and providing live score updates and commentary below.

Man United vs Copenhagen live updates, highlights from Champions League

84th minute: Hojlund makes way for Anthony Martial.

77th minute: How have United not doubled their lead?! Garnacho can’t quite wrap his foot around his strike and it rebounds off the goalkeeper into the path of McTominay who fails to find the far corner from inside the box.

72nd minute: GOAL! Christian Eriksen whips in a beautiful ball to Harry Maguire at the back post who breaks the deadlock with a downward header into the bottom left corner. Finally, something goes his way.

67th minute: Another glorious opportunity for United to take the lead. It’s Garnacho this time who has acres of space in behind, which may have been part of the problem, before getting caught in two minds. He couldn’t choose whether to curl it around the goalkeeper or knock it around him and tap it into the back of an empty net. He did neither and the keeper collected with ease.

62nd minute: United make a double substitution. Garnacho and Lindelof come on for Antony and Reguilon.

55th minute: Rashford is starting to cause problems. This time he is picked out by Hojlund and he knocks the ball past a sliding Grabara before being brought down, but there is minimal contact and the linesman had his flag up.

54th minute: Rashford works it well down the left and finds Hojlund in the box who tees up Eriksen. The Dane tries to drill it across the ground to the bottom left corner but Kamil Grabara dives well to make the save.

52nd minute: Penalty shout for United! Hojlund is nudged in the back and falls to the ground but the referee waves play on. It’s certainly livened up the crowd and boy did it need it.

50th minute: Onana makes a huge save to keep it all square! Copenhagen counter down the right and the ball is pulled back to Lukas Lerager who forces a brilliant save out of United’s goalkeeper.

48th minute: Reguilon tries his luck from distance but it’s well charged down by the Copenhagen defence.

46th minute: We are back underway for the second half. United have made one change as Amrabat comes off for Eriksen.

HT: Loud boos as the whistle is blown for half-time.

44th minute: That was incredibly poor. Reguilon needed to to simply pass the ball in a straight line to Rashford who had acres of space in behind but the left-back couldn’t even make that happen.

34th minute: It’s all gone slightly flat in Old Trafford as neither team seems to be taking this game to one another. United look disjointed and Copenhagen’s play in the final third hasn’t quite been good enough to cause any problems since hitting the post.

23rd minute: The first bit of urgency from United as Amrabat plays a one-two with Hojlund before finding Antony out on the wing. He skips past the Copenhagen left back and finds the Dane in the box who tries to pick out McTominay with a backheel but he can’t quite get there.

16th minute: A first chance for United as Rashford zips in a fantastic ball for Hojlund to take one touch and shoot but the Danish international can’t keep his effort down and it sails over the bar.

12th minute: The visitors have started the brighter of the two teams and United can’t seem to get a hold of the ball in these early stages.

5th minute: Copenhagen hit the post! Maguire half commits to a challenge and loses out before Goncalves receives the ball at the back post and tries to curl it past Onana, which he does, but he can’t beat the woodwork.

2nd minute: Achouri tries his luck from distance and Onana dives to his right to make the save, however, it was going wide anyway.

Kickoff: After a wonderful tribute to the late Sir Bobby Charlton, we are underway at the Theatre of Dreams.

5 minutes until kickoff: The players are on their way out onto the pitch. Kickoff is next!

10 minutes until kickoff: United have gotten the result they were after, Munich have beaten Galatasaray which helps the Red Devils in their bid to sneak out of this group into the knockouts. But none of that matters, if they fail to win tonight.

30 minutes until kickoff: The atmosphere is building nicely inside Old Trafford as the Copenhagen fans take to their seats and begin their chants.

60 minutes until kickoff: The lineups have been announced! McTominay holds his place in the starting XI and Erik ten Hag brings Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon back as they’re free from injury. For Copenhagen, Rasmus Hojlund’s brother is on the bench and Mohamed Elyounoussi starts.

90 minutes until kickoff: Bad news coming in from the early kickoff in Group A. Galatasaray have drawn level against Munich and are piling on the pressure. United could really do with Munich taking all three points in that match to keep second place up for grabs.

2 hours until kickoff: Welcome to tonight’s live blog from Old Trafford! Man United are desperate for a victory tonight and risk ruling themselves out of the knockout stages if they fail to pick up three points.

Man United vs Copenhagen lineups

Manchester United’s back line has been devastated by injuries, with Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all sidelined, while Sergio Reguilon returns after a muscle injury.

Casemiro is suspended for this match after being sent off against Galatasaray and Jadon Sancho is still out of the squad after a bust-up with Erik ten Hag.

Man United starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Onana (GK) — Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Reguilon — Amrabat, McTominay — Antony, Fernandes, Rashford — Hojlund.

Midfielder William Clem is FC Copenhagen’s only serious injury concern, as the 19-year-old recovers from a broken leg. They could, however, also miss left-back Birger Meling who missed the weekend’s match with a fitness issue.

Mohamed Elyounoussi, who arrived from Southampton in the summer, is familiar with the Premier League side and is in good form, scoring his second league goal of the season over the weekend while also collecting one in the Champions League against Galatasaray.

FC Copenhagen starting lineup (4-3-3): Grabara (GK) — Ankersen, Vavro, Diks, Jelert — Lerager, Falk, Gonçalves — Elyounoussi, Claesson, Achouri.
