Man Utd: Euro giants want Greenwood for three reasons; Ratcliffe ‘prepares offer’ for ‘number one target’

Serie A giants Juventus reportedly want to sign Mason Greenwood, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe will ‘spare no expense’ for Manchester United’s ‘number one target’…

GREENWOOD TO TURIN?
After pulling the plug on Greenwood’s Old Trafford return last summer, the new regime headed up by Ratcliffe will have another decision to make this summer with the Englishman unlikely to spend another season on loan in La Liga with Getafe.

During recent media appearances, Ratcliffe was keen to keep the door open for Greenwood to return, but it is being widely reported that Man Utd are likely to cash in for a pure profit sale of their academy product. He is due to be out of contract in 2025 but the club have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona have already been mentioned as potential destinations but Serie A giants Juventus seem to be in the running as well.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim the signing of Greenwood is ‘more than an idea’ for Juventus. The ‘three aspects’ said to be behind their interest are ‘the talent of the Englishman, his age and the contractual situation’.

It is also noted that ‘barring second thoughts’, Greenwood ‘will return to Old Trafford at the end of June, but not to stay there’. While they are likely to face competition from potential rivals, Juventus have been ‘pushed to join the race’ to sign him.

MAN UTD ‘NUMBER ONE TARGET’
This summer transfer window is expected to be a busy one for Ratcliffe and incoming Man Utd director Dan Ashworth with several deals on the agenda.

While Greenwood is likely to be their most notable outgoing, the signing of a new centre-back will be one of their priorities after injuries in defence have marred Erik ten Hag’s side this term.

The Red Devils have been without Lisandro Martinez for much of this season and Raphael Varane is not the player he once was so they could do with signing a younger option at centre-back and they reportedly have their eye on Juventus standout Gleison Bremer.

The Brazil international has been consistently linked with Premier League clubs in recent years as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been mooted as potential destinations.

But according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Man Utd are ‘preparing an offer’ for Bremer, who is said to be their ‘number one target’.

Ashworth is reportedly ‘preparing the assault’ for Bremer, who is ‘in the sights of many top European clubs’ and is available for €50m (£43m) as part of his current release clause. In an attempt to get a deal done, it is suggested that co-owner Ratcliffe will ‘spare no expense’.

ARSENAL ‘KEEP TABS’ ON GIBBS-WHITE
Nottingham Forest’s relegation fears have worsened during the international break as they have been docked four points for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

With the Premier League side walking a financial tightrope, they may be forced to offload a couple of sellable assets in the summer even if they stay up.

Forest could arguably make the most money from Gibbs-white, who has shone for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side since completing his £35m move from Wolves in 2022.

According to The Daily Star, Arsenal are ‘keeping tabs’ on Gibbs-White and they are ‘monitoring his availability with interest’.

Mikel Arteta is already spoiled for choice in attacking areas but the Arsenal head coach ‘wants to reshape his ranks’ and it is suggested that Gibbs-White could ‘fill Emile Smith Rowe’s space’ in next season’s squad.
