United remain keen on Inacio
Manchester United see Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio as a replacement for Harry Maguire, suggests the Mirror.
“Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio is directly linked to the future of Harry Maguire at Old Trafford,” the paper claims.
“The England defender prefers playing in the left-sided central defensive role for club and country, despite being right-footed. This is the position in which Lisandro Martinez is usually deployed for United, with Raphael Varane or Victor Lindelof usually partnering him on the right.
“The United manager ruled out Maguire playing in the position again less than six months ago, but the 30-year-old started the side’s recent EFL Cup victory over Crystal Palace in that role – partnering Raphael Varane in the heart of Ten Hag’s side’s defence.”
United ready to take hit on Sancho
The Daily Mail believes that Manchester United will have to take a loss if they move on Jadon Sancho, with Erik ten Hag at odds with the winger.
The paper writes: “As it stands, the United manager is refusing to back down in his stand-off with Sancho, who has been banished from the first-team squad since effectively calling Ten Hag a liar after he was dropped from last month’s defeat at Arsenal due to a poor attitude in training.
“United are so eager to offload Sancho in January that they are willing to subsidise his £300,000-a-week wages if they are able to agree a loan move for the rest of the season.
“Juventus and former club Borussia Dortmund have both been linked with Sancho, but neither will be prepared to match United’s £60million valuation for a player who by that stage is unlikely to have played for over four months.”
United takeover edging closer
Manchester United’s takeover is progressing slowly, reports the Express, but Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is leading the race.
“Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is on the brink of a Manchester United takeover almost one year after the Glazers put the club up for sale,” the paper states.
“The Qatari royal has reportedly beaten competition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other minority investors to near a historic deal.
“In November last year, the Glazer family announced a strategic review to explore alternative investment opportunities, including a potential sale.
“Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim emerged as the two leading candidates vying for a majority stake in United, while several US hedge funds entered the running for minority investment.
“Eleven months on, the six Glazer siblings continue to delay the process, reportedly amid a reluctance to cash in from club co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer.”
Napoli looks for Conte
The Sun reports that Antonio Conte could be picked up by Napoli as they consider the future of Rudi Garcia.
“Antonio Conte is being lined up for a return to management after five months away from football,” the paper reports.
“The former Chelsea boss has been out of work since he was sacked by Tottenham in March.
“Serie A champions Napoli are said to have formally approached Conte as a potential replacement for Rudi Garcia.
“Discussions are expected to take place although no final decision has been made yet.”
