As is the case with the City Connect uniforms worn by many MLB teams, the Mets’ City Connect uniforms are a significant departure from their normal unis.

The Mets went away from their orange and blue color scheme in favor of a dark grey jersey and hat. The jersey features pinstripes with “NYC” written across the chest, as well as some purple accents on the sleeves.
New York is one of eight teams scheduled to debut a City Connect uniform for the first time this season. The Mets are the second team to unveil their uni this season, following the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays will show off their first City Connect uniforms later this season, while the Los Angeles Dodgers will introduce a second City Connect uniforms.
As of now, the only teams not expected to have a City Connect uniform by the end of the 2024 season are the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics.
City Connect uniforms are meant to have strong links to the cities the MLB teams represent, and that is the case when it comes to the Mets’ new threads.
SNY’s Andy Martino wrote an article about the Mets’ City Connect uniforms in which he broke down the meaning of the colors and designs that are included.
Martino noted that the grey color represents New York City’s concrete sidewalks and the purple accents are a nod to the 7 Line train. The New York subway system is also symbolized by circles and diamonds in the pinstripes on the jersey, and the circular sleeve patch is meant to look like a subway token.
Finally, the bridge under the Mets logo on the hat is designed to look like the Queensboro Bridge, which is an iconic bridge connecting Queens to Manhattan.
The uniforms come at a time when the Mets are starting to build up some goodwill with their fans again after disappointingly going 75-87 and missing the playoffs last season.
The Mets started 0-5 this season, however, they have won six of their past seven games and find themselves third in the National League East at 10-8.
