Mikel Arteta gives update on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka after duo are taken off during win over Sheffield United

Mikel Arteta says he doesn’t know the severity of Gabriel Martinelli’s injury sustained against Sheffield United.

The Brazilian started for the Gunners at Bramall Lane and scored to put them 3-0 ahead on the night after just 15 minutes.

He also assisted Kai Havertz as Arsenal continued ran riot in a 6-0 thumping of the Blades, but Martinelli’s night was cut short in the 64th minute.

Martinelli went down on the turf and appeared to have an issue with his right foot, and had to be taken off with the help of physios.

The 22-year-old could be seen wincing in pain and was unable to put any weight on his foot.

As a result he was replaced by Gabriel Jesus who replaced him in Arsenal’s attacking line.

Bukayo Saka was also brought off at half-time to be replaced by Fabio Vieira, however, this is because he was feeling unwell, Arteta says.

“Bukayo was feeling a bit sick and Martinelli had a cut in his foot, so we’ll have to see,” Arteta told talkSPORT after the match.

Martinelli suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the season but was absent for just two league games as a result.

He has now scored eight goals and assisted another five in all competitions in the current campaign following his efforts against Sheffield United.

The winger’s substitution could be set to put a damper on what was another dominant performance from Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring after just five minutes before a Jayden Bogle own-goal and Martinelli’s finish made it 3-0.

A swathe of Sheffield United fans could be seen heading for the exits, with Havertz and Declan Rice scoring the fourth and fifth before half-time.

Ben White made it 6-0 just before the hour mark and the Blades did very little to muster a response as they fell to another defeat.
