MLB Rickwood Field Game live score, updates, highlights from Cardinals vs. Giants

Top-flight baseball is back at Rickwood Field as Major League Baseball makes its debut at the historic ballpark.

The St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants will square off in the special game at 7:15 p.m. ET Thursday, June 20, in honor of Juneteenth. The two teams will wear special uniforms paying homage to Negro League teams.

The first-of-its-kind contest represents another step toward Negro Leagues history becoming incorporated with MLB history.

Some of baseball’s best stars in the 20th century played in the Negro Leagues, and Willie Mays was one of them. The Hall of Famer played 13 games for the Birmingham Black Barons at Rickwood Field in 1948. MLB will celebrate his life ahead of Thursday’s first pitch.

As for the Cardinals (36-37) and Giants (36-39), they’ll face off in an NL interdivisional matchup. Keaton Winn will take the mound for San Francisco, while Andre Pallante will start for St. Louis.

Neither pitcher poses a significant threat, so expect plenty of offense in the nationally televised matchup.
