Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet has generated trade interest from several contending teams, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Heyman wrote on Thursday that “every contending team” has interest in the left-handed starter, specifically mentioning the New York Yankees among the teams that “love the arm and potential.”
Despite Chicago’s place at the bottom of the AL Central standings with a 20-55 overall record, Crochet has amassed a 6-6 record to go along with a 3.25 ERA in 16 starts.
The 24-year-old was previously a starter during his college days at Tennessee, although he remained in the bullpen with the White Sox prior to his breakout 2024 season. There are some concerns regarding his durability, as he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022 and has never pitched more than the 88.2 innings that he’s already logged this year.
However, he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. In his last five starts, Crochet has racked up 50 strikeouts in 31 innings to go along with a 2.32 ERA. In fact, his average of 12.59 strikeouts per nine innings is the highest mark in the majors (via MLB.com).

Crochet is also enticing contending teams due to his contract, as he’s making just $800,000 in 2024 and still has two more arbitration-eligible years left (per Spotrac).
While the Yankees aren’t in desperate need of rotation help, they could be interested in adding another arm as they prepare for a postseason run. New York already owns the second-best ERA among starting pitchers on all teams, while reigning American League Cy Young Award-winner Gerrit Cole made his season debut on Wednesday.
If the White Sox continue to struggle, general manager Chris Getz could end up pulling the trigger on a Crochet deal and sending him to one of several interested teams.
