Mohamed Salah’s ‘arrogant flick’ for goal had Jurgen Klopp purring like all Liverpool fans

Jurgen Klopp was every Liverpool fan as he purred at Mohamed Salah’s classy finish to help them beat Austrian side LASK in the Europa League.

The Reds came from behind to secure a 3-1 win in their opening group match thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Salah.

Nunez equalised with a confident penalty, while Diaz’s goal came through some great team play. But the third, scored by Salah, was a fine piece of individual quality.

The Egyptian received the ball from Nunez inside the opposition box before sneaking in between two LASK defenders and cheekily nutmegging goalkeeper Tobias Lawal with an outside of the boot poke.

Replays show what a clever finish it was, although Reds boss Klopp didn’t need one to appreciate the quality from his star man, the German looking visibly impressed as he celebrated the goal.

Salah’s effort also impressed former Red Ray Houghton, who said on commentary for talkSPORT 2: “The way he just moves his body from one side to the other, the arrogant flick, Klopp knows he’s seen something special from Salah there.”

The goal was Salah’s 42nd for Liverpool in European competition, meaning he’s joint level with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for the most goals in Europe representing an English club ever.

He has also either scored or assisted in each of his last 12 games in all competitions for Liverpool, his outright best run of games with goal involvements for the Reds.

A fine effort by Florian Flecker gave the home side a shock lead early in the first half which saw Liverpool leave their shooting boots in the dressing room.

But they were on show after the break as they netted three times, the first scored by Nunez, who dispatched a penalty past Lawal after Diaz was on the end of a crunching challenge inside the LASK box.

The match was turned on its head on 63 minutes when Diaz fired into the roof of the net as he got on the end of Ryan Gravenberch’s menacing cross from the right after Harvey Elliott set the Dutchman away down the right with a great pass.

Salah put the game beyond any doubt with his brilliant goal – his 189th in Liverpool colours.
