January is a time for new starts and there are big name players potentially on the move.
Jadon Sancho
Everyone knows the story regarding Jadon Sancho by now, and the Englishman looks more unlikely to make amends with manager Erik ten Hag than at any point since their feud started. The talented winger cost Manchester United £73 Million in the summer of 2021 but has failed to replicate his scintillating Bundesliga form since returning to England.
Sancho is now odds on with major bookmakers to return to his former club Borussia Dortmund this January. United and the German club are reportedly discussing a loan move for the Englishman. It’s a move that makes sense for both clubs and the player.
Aaron Ramsdale
David Raya is now the undisputed number-one keeper at the Emirates, despite Arteta’s repeated claims that the job would be rotated when the Spaniard joined from Brentford. That has left Aaron Ramsdale on the outside looking in. With Euro 2024 fast approaching, he may need a January move to ensure his place in the England squad.
The 25-year-old has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle. Arsenal will be reluctant to strengthen a direct rival, so Ramsdale would have to push hard for a move to make it happen in January. There have also been faint rumours of interest from overseas, including from mega clubs like Bayern Munich.
Ivan Toney
Toney hasn’t kicked a ball for eight months but is still being heavily linked with a move away from Brentford in the January window. Striker is a position that several big clubs are looking to upgrade, increasing the value of the Englishman. Brentford sources have stated a fee of £80 Million would be required for them to sell, an amount beyond the reach of most clubs.
Arsenal are crying out for a prolific striker. The wastefulness of Jesus and Nketiah in front of the goal is a big part of why they suffered back-to-back defeats to West Ham and Fulham. Fellow London powerhouses Chelsea and Spurs have also been linked to a move for Toney. He would slot into either side and nicely fill a hole in their side.
Serhou Guirassy
This late-blooming Striker has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season. A relative unknown to the wider footballing world before this campaign, he has broken multiple German league goalscoring records and sits on 17 goals scored in just 14 games entering the winter break. A potential release clause of just £18 Million has several clubs sniffing for a possible January move.
Several Premier League clubs tracking the attacker, including West Ham, Newcastle and Manchester United. Recent reports suggest he’s most keen on a switch to Tottenham, a move that makes sense as the North London side desperately needs a striker. Other significant European clubs like AC Milan and Bayern Munich are also interested.
Santiago Gimenez
This Mexican starlet is reportedly on the radar of many of Europe’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid have been heavily linked and the forward has previously expressed his admiration for Lo Blancos. He would perfectly fill the hole left by the summer departure of Karim Benzema and ease Madrid’s over-reliance on Jude Bellingham in attack.
A switch to the Premier League could also be on the cards as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Spurs have all scouted the 22-year-old striker. All three London clubs need a new striker, and Gimenez’s record-breaking goal-scoring tally of 18 in 16 Eredivisie games this season could tempt them to make a move this January.
