Flag football is on the rise, with high school teams popping up around the country and the sport set to be featured in the 2028 Olympics.
The NFL seems determined to be a driving force behind its growth and this weekend is sponsoring the inaugural NFL Flag Championships in Canton, Ohio.
Nearly 300 girls, boys and co-ed teams with players ranging from 8 to 18 years old have gathered at the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame for three days of games culminating in championships on Sunday.
Flag football has seen significant growth in the high school ranks in recent years. Eight states sanctioned girls flag football championships during the last school year and at least three more will do so in 2024-25.
The NFL continues to evolve year after year. Whether it’s rule changes, expansion of games into other countries like Brazil or England, easier access to games and more, it continues to maintain its status as America’s most-watched sport.
High school girls teams will play a starring role in this weekend’s NFL event, with the 18U girls set to air across a variety of national networks along with the 15U boys competition.
The Sporting News has all of the essential details ahead of the event, including start times and where to watch the tournament unfold.
