NFL Week 15 highlights: Bengals beat Vikings in OT; Lions, Colts win

Week 15 of the NFL season continued Saturday with a three-game slate, and we had you covered with all the highlights from around the league.

Cincinnati (8-6) kicked things off by beating Minnesota (7-7) in an overtime thriller. Then, Indianapolis (8-6) took down Pittsburgh (7-7) in the afternoon slate. Closing out the night, Detroit (10-4) handled Denver (7-7) with ease.

Detroit Lions 42, Denver Broncos 17

2:26 4Q: They did it AGAIN

Denver scored a touchdown, but then it failed to recover an onside kick. Eight plays later, Jared Goff hooked up with tight end Sam LaPorta for their third touchdown connection. This one was a 10-yard score that gave the Lions a 42-17 lead, which was the final score.

12:19 4Q: Gibbs Racing

Six plays after Denver put a field goal on the board, Jahmyr Gibbs pinballed his way into the end zone for a 12-yard score. Detroit led 35-10.

7:03 3Q: They do it again

Three plays after Gibbs ripped his way down the field for a 34-yard pickup, Goff hit LaPorta for their second scoring connection of the game. This one was a 3-yard score and put the Lions back up three scores.

10:41 3Q: Perfect touch

Denver got a much-needed touchdown to open the second half when Russell Wilson threw a superb touch pass in the back of the end zone to wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who came down with the 3-yard score.

Detroit put together an 11-play touchdown drive shortly before halftime, culminating in Goff hitting wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who leaped over multiple defenders into the end zone for a 15-yard score. The Lions led 21-0 at the halftime break.

8:20 2Q: On the ground and in the air

Four plays after Jahmyr Gibbs took off for a 21-yard carry, Jared Goff hit Gibbs for a 9-yard receiving touchdown.

12:41 2Q: Get out of the way

Goff hit LaPorta, and the tight end knifed his way through the Broncos defense for a 19-yard Lions touchdown.

11:52 1Q: Big man on the move

Denver got the ball deep into Detroit territory on its first possession before disaster struck. Lions safety Ifeatu Melifonwu strip-sacked Wilson, and defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs picked up and ran the loose ball down to the Broncos’ 37-yard line. That said, the Lions were unable to get points off the turnover, later punting.

Indianapolis Colts 30, Pittsburgh Steelers 13

13:16 3Q: Colts capitalize

Just one play after the Colts recovered a Najee Harris fumble, Gardner Minshew hooked up with tight end Mo Alie-Cox for an 18-yard touchdown. Later in the second half, Indianapolis tacked on three field goals.

0:22 2Q: Underneath and in

The Colts squeaked out a touchdown shortly before halftime when Gardner Minshew got the ball out to wide receiver T.J. Montgomery, who got into the end zone for a 14-yard score. They led 14-13 at halftime.

Michael Pittman Jr. injured

Pittman was ruled out with a concussion suffered on a hit in the second quarter.

3:27 2Q: Brutal

Indianapolis got the ball to the Pittsburgh 1-yard line but turned it over on downs after Montgomery was unable to come down with a touchdown reception in the back of the end zone.

11:21 2Q: Mossing around

Following the second Pittsburgh score, Pittman came down with a pair of completions that combined for 63 yards, getting the Colts in the red zone. Later in the drive, Minshew got the ball out to Zach Moss, and the running back galloped into the end zone for a 16-yard score.

15:00 2Q: Blocked punt leads to TD

Connor Heyward blocked the Colts’ punt attempt on the ensuing possession, and the Steelers recovered the loose ball. Two plays later, Mitchell Trubisky hit wide receiver Diontae Johnson for a 4-yard touchdown.

1:12 1Q: Power football

Pittsburgh had Trubisky run a quarterback sneak at the goal line on fourth down, and he indeed punched it into the end zone for the touchdown; Trubisky was initially ruled short after fumbling, but replay review overturned the call for a touchdown. That said, the Steelers missed the extra point and led 6-0.

Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt got to Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew for the sack.

Cincinnati Bengals 27, Minnesota Vikings 24 (OT)

3:15 OT: Bengals win!

Bengals quarterback Jake Browning scrambled and found wide receiver Tyler Boyd, who maneuvered his way downfield for a 44-yard pickup. Three plays later, kicker Evan McPherson connected on the game-winning, 29-yard field goal.

0:39 4Q: TIE GAME!

Jake Browning went to his right, threw up a deep ball for Tee Higgins and the wide receiver pulled off one of the most absurd touchdown catches of the season. This one was a 21-yard touchdown for the Bengals that helped even up the score at 24 apiece. The game went to overtime.

Ja’Marr Chase injured

Chase suffered a right shoulder injury in the fourth quarter and didn’t return.

3:48 4Q: CHAOTIC Vikings TD drive!

A pick-six from Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt was negated by Trey Hendrickson lining up offside, moving the chains for the Vikings. Later in the drive, running back Ty Chander ripped a 30-yard carry. One play later, Nick Mullens improvised and found wide receiver Jordan Addison for a circus, 1-yard touchdown reception, regaining the lead for Minnesota.

7:46 4Q: Bengals tie it up!

What a comeback by Cincinnati, which has come back from down 17-3 to knot the score at 17-all. Cincy marched 64 yards on 11 plays, capping the drive with a 1-yard scoring plunge by Joe Mixon.

14:56 4Q: TOUCHDOWN BENGALS!

Just like that, the Bengals got back within a score at 17-10. Jake Browning hit Tee Higgins with a 13-yard touchdown pass, and Cincinnati was in business with a quarter to go.

4:36 3Q: 17-3, Vikings

It was another methodical drive for Minnesota, using eight plays and more than four minutes to go just 36 yards. A field goal made it 17-3.

10:46 3Q: Vikings extend lead

It’s been a defensive struggle so far, but Minnesota broke out big-time to start the second half. The Vikings drove 92 yards on eight plays, pushing their advantage to 14-3 on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Nick Mullens to Jordan Addison. The Mullens-Addison connection has proven fruitful, as the pair have connected on all four of their targets for 101 yards.

Injury update: Bengals lose two players

According to ESPN, Cincinnati has already lost two defensive players for the rest of the game due to injuries: defensive tackle D.J. Reader, and cornerback DJ Ivey.

2:23 1Q: TOUCHDOWN VIKINGS!

Minnesota responded impressively to Cincinnati’s opening field goal with its first opening-drive touchdown of the season to grab a 7-3 lead. The drive went 75 yards on 12 plays, capped by a 1-yard plunge by Ty Chander.

8:41 1Q: Bengals on board first

Jake Browning has been a revelation for the Bengals in place of injured star Joe Burrow. After the Bengals received the opening kickoff, Browning drove the Bengals 59 yards on 11 plays, giving Cincinnati a quick 3-0 lead. Browning was 5-for-6 for 57 yards on the drive.
