Some matches make tennis history for their drama, passion, and pure skill on the court. In the 2017 Miami Open semifinals, Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios fought a game that had spectators on the edge of their seats. Kyrgios reflected on that historical match in his recent Instagram story. Reminiscing about those golden days on court, he labeled the match in a hyperbolic way that caught the attention of both of their followers.

The semi-final at the Miami Open was exactly seven years ago today. The fact that every set in that match finished in a tie-break was what really made it unique. It was an unusual event in tennis, which attested to how fiercely contested the match was.

After three hours and nine minutes of play, fourth seed Roger Federer won 7-6(9) 6-7(9) 7-6(5) during the Miami Open semifinals of 2017. Kyrgios saved two match points in the second set but could not save a third. However, what made the match more dramatic was their tie-break after each set. The pressure increased, the stakes got higher. Referring to this historical moment on-court, Nick Kyrgios put up a story about the video and aptly captioned it, “Match of the decade”.
