‘No arguments’ – Campbell Hatton suffers shock defeat as Ricky Hatton’s son endures first loss of his career

Campbell Hatton suffered the first defeat of his career in a shock upset on Saturday night.

The Hurricane was facing James Flint for the Central Area super-lightweight title in a clash that many expected him to win.

However the 23-year-old fell to a unanimous points decision that saw Flint retain his title with the judges scoring it 98-92, 97-94 and 97-95.

It was a hugely entertaining scrap, with both men trading punches throughout the ten-round affair.

The pair looked for a knockout, with Flint emptying the tank in the eighth round after hurting Hatton with a brutal hook to the body.

But Hatton showed his grit as he looked to land big blows of his own, but he couldn’t get Flint out of there, with judges declaring the latter as the winner.

Hatton was previously unbeaten in 14 professional fights, but defeat in Sheffield means that he must now bounce back with a 14-1 record.

Speaking after the fight, Hatton conceded the right man won, as he said: “Early on I stuck to the plan but I have no arguments, he came on strong.

“I think I did enough but no arguments. I just have to learn.

“I would love to do that again. All respect to Jimmy Joe.

“I hope I showed a few people I am more than a silver spoon, I can dig in.”

Meanwhile Flint showed his class in the aftermath, as he declared that his rival will be back soon.

He remarked: “Well done to Campbell, he will come again, he’s a great fighter who will come again.”
