Graabak brings Norway home in front for victory in men’s team sprint in Lahti
Norway’s Jen Luraas Oftebro and Joergen Graabak mounted a late comeback to win the men’s team sprint event at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Lahti.
The pair were 37 seconds back after the ski jumping with Graabak’s effort on the second jump pulling them up from ninth to seventh at the halfway point.
Germany led after the ski jumping, with Julian Schmid and Terence Weber combining well to give the pair a 17-second head start over Austria II in the cross-country section with Germany’s second team in third.
Austria’s first team, in the form of Johannes Lamparter and Stefan Rettenegger, quickly reeled in Germany to lead at the 4.3km stage.
By the halfway point of the 15km cross-country race, Norway had moved into the lead, albeit temporarily.
Austria reclaimed their lead until with just 2.7km to go, Norway took to the front and did not relinquish their hold, eventually coming home to claim gold 7.1 seconds ahead of Austria.
Germany II comprising Vinzenz Geiger and Manuel Faisst finished 32.5 seconds further back for third place.
The action concludes in Finland tomorrow with the men’s large hill/10km.
