Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. still isn’t happy with how his departure from the New York Giants went down.
While speaking on his teammate Marlon Humphrey’s Punch Line Podcast, Beckham opened up about how he felt about the Giants trading him to the Cleveland Browns in 2019, saying he felt the team was trying to damage his career.
“There’s a semi bit of me that feels like the Giants sent me off, I’ve said it before, sent me off to Cleveland to die,” Beckham said, per TMZ. “You can’t tell me this was the best trade package we could have got for you…no, your desire was to kind of f–k me over a little bit.”
The Giants sent Beckham and defensive end Olivier Vernon to the Browns in exchange for safety Jabrill Peppers, guard Kevin Zeitler and first- and third-round picks in the 2019 NFL draft. While that was a substantial haul for New York, Beckham felt there were better deals on the table that would have allowed him to land with a title contender.
The No. 12 pick in the 2014 draft by the Giants, Beckham burst onto the scene with a scorching start to his career that saw him earn Pro Bowl selections in each of his first three years in the NFL. However, his time in New York eventually soured due to his antics off the field. He expressed some remorse over how his immaturity played a part in the team shipping him away.
“You feel like I made a fool of you or the organization and that was never truly my intention … I’m just that competitive,” OBJ said. “I wanted to win, I always wanted to win. I’m tired of being 6-10, we haven’t done anything to make changes.”
Beckham was eventually cut by the Browns and went on to win a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. Now, he’s playing for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Ravens will host the Houston Texans in an AFC Divisional Round matchup on Saturday.
