There was a time in Odell Beckham Jr.’s career when being a No. 3 option on his own team would have been unheard of, but that is the reality for the veteran wide receiver after he joined the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

But he is ready to play alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

“You just all push each other,” Beckham said Wednesday, per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. “And for me at this place, my life and my career, I haven’t been the number one in a minute, you could go back and look at targets, you can go look at anything. That’s not really where I’ve been at. So, just understanding your role and how can you be the very best at that role? How can you maximize those opportunities?”

Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins, per Spotrac, and will turn 32 years old during the upcoming season.

He likely isn’t going to be a long-term fixture in Miami’s offense, but the team is eyeing a potential Super Bowl run during his one season given the firepower that will be around him.

“‘I’ve got to go get back on the track,” Beckham continued. “It’s some speed down here. But I’ve never shied away from competition. Coach was mentioning that on third down, they were getting a lot of doubling both of them (Hill and Waddle). And there’s just a lot of room for opportunity.”

There was a time when the LSU product was one of the best wide receivers in the league with three straight seasons of more than 1,300 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns to start his career on the New York Giants.

However, he has bounced around of late with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens while also missing time with injury concerns.

Beckham was still somewhat productive last season for the Ravens with 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns but will surely be looking to improve on those totals in Miami. That is especially the case because he will hardly ever face double teams playing alongside Hill and Waddle.

And he seems ready to embrace that role.
