Japan is back atop the medal podium in men’s gymnastics, and by the narrowest of margins.
The country just edged past China to win gold in a battle between the two favorites heading into the event, winning by a minuscule 0.532, while the United States got on the podium as well with a bronze medal in dramatic fashion.

While the competition for gold and silver seemed almost a foregone conclusion heading into the event, the battle for bronze was very much up for grabs between the United States, Great Britain and Ukraine.
In the end, it was Stephen Nedoroscik’s epic performance on the pommel horse that helped the United States clinch the bronze:
