The United States’ quest to win Gold at the 2023 Pan American Games will continue with a semifinal showdown against Chile on Wednesday.
Michael Nsien’s squad will square off with the Chileans after registering a 2-1-0 record in group stage play in Chile. Despite falling 1-0 to Brazil in its first match of the competition, the United States rebounded with back-to-back victories to clinch its spot in the final four of the tournament.
The Americans erased a first-half deficit to claim a 2-1 victory over fellow Concacaf side Honduras. Seattle Sounders midfielder Daniel Leyva and DC United winger Theodore Ku-Dipietro both celebrated second-half goals to help the United States stay alive in group stage play.
A 2-0 win over Colombia on Sunday was headlined by goals from Portland Timbers forward Tega Ikoba and Atletico Madrid’s Rodrigo Neri. FC Dallas goalkeeper Antonio Carrera registered a four-save clean sheet against the Colombians.
Jackson Hopkins, Jack Panayotou, Alex Freeman, and Ku-Dipietro have all registered one assist apiece through three matches. Chituru Odunze has featured once in between the posts, registering one save to date.
Brazil and Mexico will face off in the second semifinal matchup on Wednesday.
