A judge in Kansas dismissed three sexual assault charges against Jackson Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.
Connor Hills of KMBC News reported Mahomes is still facing a misdemeanor battery charge.
The 23-year-old was arrested in May 2023 after a woman, Aspen Vaughn, said he grabbed and forcibly kissed her at the restaurant she owned. Surveillance video from the restaurant corroborated the allegations.
However, Hills reported that Vaughn has experienced “a sudden change of heart” and “plans to assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination if she is compelled to testify.” As a result, prosecutors requested the presiding judge to drop the three felony charges.
“Indeed, it has become clear to the State, through conversations with more than one person in contact with her, that A.R. is actively thwarting attempts to serve her to avoid coming to court,” Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Megan Ahsens wrote in a motion.
Mahomes’ attorney, Brandan Davies, maintained after the motion was filed his client “has done nothing wrong.”
The misdemeanor charge remains because it was unrelated the allegations originally leveled by Vaughn. Mahomes allegedly shoved a waiter at the restaurant multiple times.
