Portugal: Martinez hails “perfect” Ronaldo display in Euro qualifier

CR7 has impressed the new Portugal manager with his unselfish displays in Euro 2026 qualifiers.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance against Bosnia and Herzegovina was perfect, according to Portugal manager Roberto Martinez.

CR7’s name didn’t appear on the scoreline as Portugal defeated their opponents 3-0 on home soil. But his performance was, nonetheless, integral to the hosts’ victory.

Ronaldo provided a crucial pass for Bruno Fernandes, who then delivered an assist for Bernardo Silva’s opener. The 38-year-old’s move on the third goal was also key to providing space for Fernandes to smash a powerful header into the back of the net.

Speaking after the match, Martinez highlighted Ronaldo’s unselfish attitude throughout the game.

“He is a unique player with 199 caps,” Martinez told reporters after the match. “His attitude was perfect, without the ball, always working, following the team’s plan. I am very satisfied. [He is] an example of a player who wants the best for the team.”

The match against Bosnia and Herzegovina marked Ronaldo’s 199th appearance for Portugal. The Al Nassr superstar could reach another international milestone by playing for Martinez’s side in their next Euro qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday.

Ronaldo will then reunite with his Al Nassr teammates as they prepare to open their Arab Club Champions Cup campaign with a match against Al Shabab on July 20.
