Tottenham versus Arsenal is always a huge match, but Sunday’s North London derby seems especially significant.
Arsenal remain in the title race, of course, looking to win the Premier League for the first time since their Invincible season of 2003/04. The Gunners have won titles at White Hart Lane in the past and while that cannot be achieved this time, victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday would give Mikel Arteta’s men real belief that they can beat Manchester City to English football’s top prize next month.
Tottenham fans will be keen for their team to spoil that potential party for their fierce rivals, but Spurs have a lot to play for themselves, with Ange Postecoglou’s side in contention for fourth place and Champions League football next season under the Australian manager.
Arteta and Postecoglou met in September for the first time in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium and the two managers will be expected to remain in charge for some time as this rivalry writes a new chapter in the coming years.
