Recent draft moves suggest Rams interest for tight ends

In both the 2023 and 2024 NFL Drafts, the Los Angeles Rams tried to trade up for a tight end in the first round. In 2023, they were reportedly interested in moving up for Dalton Kincaid-a now Buffalo Bill. In yesterday’s draft, word around the league was that the Rams were trying to move up for Georgia tight end Brock Bowers-who went 13th overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Rams had an offensive player they had their eyes on through the entire process: Brock Bowers

When he went off the board, their decision got a lot easier. They are thrilled with Jared Verse at 19. ⁦@gmfb⁩ pic.twitter.com/mf488L4na3

The Rams altered their plans when Bowers went off the board and nabbed the best pass rusher left on the board in Florida State’s Jared Verse, a position significantly more valuable and a clear need for the team.

However, it is interesting that in both years they have been interested in adding to their tight end room. They couldn’t secure a move up for Kincaid last year, and both Sam LaPorta and Michael Mayer went in the picks just before the Rams selected OL Steve Avila 36th overall. Would the Rams have added Avila if either of those two were on the board?

How does this impact their draft strategy this year? It’s a down year for tight ends after Brock Bowers, without much consensus on who the second-best tight end in the class is. Could the Rams still take one on Day 2 or is the signing of Colby Parkinson enough to convince them to hold off to pursue other needs?
