French soccer star Kylian Mbappé is reportedly not interested in extending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain beyond 2024.
According to ESPN’s Julien Laurens and Rodrigo Faez, Mbappé has no plans to sign a new deal with PSG despite club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi laying down an ultimatum this week.
Regarding Mbappé’s status with the club, Al-Khelaifi said: “Kylian must decide in a week or two at the most. If he doesn’t sign a new contract, we will sell him. It’s not negotiable.”
Per Laurens and Faez, Real Madrid is Mbappé’s preferred landing spot, and Real Madrid are hopeful to land him this summer with a bid of over €200 million.
Real Madrid are reportedly waiting for Mbappé and PSG to make the first move toward a transfer before making a bid, as Madrid are reportedly the only club Mbappé wants to play for and the only team that can afford him.
World football insider Fabrizio Romano reported last month that Mbappé planned to decline his option for the 2024-25 season, making him a free agent in 2024.
That led to rumors and speculation that Real Madrid would make Mbappé available on the transfer market immediately rather than risking losing him for nothing.
Laurens and Faez reported that Mbappé would rather leave on a transfer than as a free agent since transferring would allow PSG to secure a large transfer fee and use it toward finding a replacement.
Mbappé, 24, is arguably the top soccer player in the world currently, and he could be in line to secure that distinction for many years to come, much like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo did previously.
After beginning his professional career at Monaco, Mbappé moved to PSG and has played for the club for six seasons.
Mbappé has won an impressive five Ligue 1 titles at PSG, and was part of the team that finished as the runner-up in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League as well.
He has scored 148 goals in 176 Ligue 1 matches for PSG, including 29 last season, which was the second-highest total of his career.
Mbappé has also made a huge mark on the international stage, winning the Young Player Award at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which was won by France.
Last year, Mbappé won the Golden Boot as the top goal scorer at the World Cup, which saw his French team fall to Messi and Argentina in the final.
PSG are possibly in line to lose both Mbappé and Messi this offseason, as Messi has already committed to a move to the MLS to play for Inter Miami.
Meanwhile, if Real Madrid succeed in landing Mbappé, it would go a long way toward helping them bounce back from finishing second to Barcelona in La Liga last season.
