The English Football League Championship will reportedly be receiving another U.S. men’s national team player in the coming days.
Reggie Cannon is set to join English second-tier side QPR as a free agent signing, The Telegraph reported Tuesday. Cannon, 25, had been without a club since late-June after leaving Portuguese club Boavista due to reported unpaid wages.
Cannon completed his third season with Boavista this year, whom avoided relegation during the 2022-23 Primeira Liga campaign. The former FC Dallas homegrown right back featured as both a fullback and centerback last season, logging 32 combined appearances in all competitions.
In total, Cannon scored one goal in 88 combined appearances for the Portuguese top-flight side. Turkish club Trabzonspor had previously been linked with Cannon’s services.
Cannon has earned 28 caps to date with the USMNT, being a part of the Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup-winning squads in 2021.
QPR desperately needs right back depth with Osman Kakay currently serving as the most experienced player at the position.
Gareth Ainsworth’s squad recently fought back to tie Swansea City 1-1 on Tuesday, moving them to 19th in the league table. Up next for QPR is a trip to Birmingham City on Friday.
