Johnny Cardoso has continued to earn a larger role at Brazilian Serie A side Internacional, but looks reportedly set to make the move to one of Europe’s top-five leagues at the conclusion of the current season.
Real Betis is set to acquire Cardoso in a permanent deal, Spanish outlet Relevo reported Wednesday. Internacional will reportedly receive an initial $6.3 million (€6 million) from Real Betis for Cardoso, as well as a future 20% sell-on clause, according to ESPN.
Cardoso will sign a five-year deal with Real Betis and join at the conclusion of the Serie A season, according to the report.
Cardoso has totaled 46 combined appearances for Internacional this season, which included a run to the Copa Libertadores semifinals. The 22-year-old broke into the Internacional first team in 2020 and has proceeded to total seven goals and three assists in 136 appearances for the club.
A Denville, New Jersey native, Cardoso opted to represent the United States and has earned nine caps to date for the USMNT. He recently featured during the October international window against Germany and Ghana.
Real Betis are currently ninth in La Liga and are managed by former Premier League winner Manuel Pellegrini.
