On Saturday night, Ramla Ali was hit so hard by her opponent that she had to be helped to her feet by the referee.
Ali clashed with Julissa Alejandra Guzman on the undercard of Regis Prograis vs Danielito Zorrilla and it ended in emphatic fashion.
In the eighth round of the fight, ringside footage shows Guzman unleashed a crushing left hook that saw Ali’s legs buckle as she collapsed to the canvas.
She bravely attempted to get up, but it was not to be, as the referee waved off the fight and even had to grab Ali to stop her from falling once again.
Meanwhile, Guzman celebrated having inflicted the first defeat of Ali’s nine fight career so far.
After the fight, Ali tweeted: “Congratulations to Julissa Guzman. It wasn’t my night unfortunately. I’ll be back.”
Reacting to Guzman’s upset victory, IBF bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges tweeted: “Guzman [Heart emoji]. Strong, great punch selection and timing!
“Unlucky for Ali, but risks you take when you step up and main thing is, is how you come back!”
In the main event, Prograis beat late replacement Zorrilla by split decision and the American admitted it was not his best performance.
“New Orleans, I’m sorry. I have to go back to the gym and work on thing. I wanted to put on a little better performance,” Prograis said after the fight.
