Rune dumped out by world No. 58 in Stockholm as nightmare run continues

Highlights as Rune crashes out to Kecmanovic in Stockholm Open

Holger Rune’s poor run of form continued at the Stockholm Open as the Dane lost in straight sets to Miomir Kecmanovic in the last 16.

The 20-year-old turned in an error-strewn display against the Serbian, who won a tight first set before wrapping up a 7-6(3) 6-2 victory in an hour and 44 minutes.

The defeat was the ninth in the last 10 matches for Rune, stretching back to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon where he lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

However, he failed to build on that momentum as he lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the next round in China before succumbing to the world No. 58 in Stockholm.

The first set went with serve before Kecmanovic dominated the tie-break, losing just three points to seize the advantage.

Rune hit back in the second to break his opponent in the first game to lead 1-0, but he couldn’t consolidate his position.

The No. 1 seed was immediately broken back before capitulating completely from 2-2, winning just five points as Kecmanovic clinched four games in a row to seal the victory.

Kecmanovic will take on either Elias Ymer or Dino Prizmic in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Tallon Griekspoor saw off the challenge of Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6(3) 6-4 to set up a last-eight clash with Pavel Kotov, who dispatched Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.

Laslo Djere beat American J.J. Wolf 7-5 6-4 and will face either Thomas Machac or Stan Wawrinka next.
