Garcia’s knockdowns of Haney have been captured in a unique video
Garcia, a significant underdog, managed to pull off a stunning upset in the Big Apple, knocking down the champion three times en route to a stunning win.
New footage has now emerged from ringside of the three occasions Haney was forced to climb from the canvas, in the seventh, tenth and eleventh rounds.
The first knockdown came after ‘King Ry’ landed his trademark booming left hook before a quick right hand followed to send his rival tumbling.
After surviving on his feet until the tenth, Haney found himself on the floor again when Garcia unloaded a brutal barrage in the corner of the ring.
During the penultimate stanza, the eventual winner landed the signature left hand once more, which left Haney sat on the seat of his pants for the third and final time.
He was unable to force the stoppage with Haney showing gritty resilience to climb from his feet and hang on until the judges’ scores were in.
But Garcia had his hand raised after the twelve-round distance, in a contest many are already hailing as the fight of the year.
Despite the loss, the WBC super-lightweight world title remains in the clutches of ‘The Dream’ who will now need to find his way to redemption.
An immediate sequel is being called for by the boxing world after the incredible nature of the opening clash.
Both fighters welcomed the shot, which could be complicated by a mandatory challenge for the belt from Sandor Martin.
Ryan Garcia reveals the hardest puncher he’s ever faced, and says he wants to box Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis and Sean O’Malley
Although given the success of the first event, it is likely that the clamour will be for a repeat of this barnstorming dust-up.
Garcia struggled to make the weight for the event, which could suggest the pair may be forced to meet at a different weight with the 140lbs fight scrapped.
Haney’s promoter Eddie Hearn had teased a future switch to 147lbs for the champion prior to the devastating defeat.
