Both Hangman and Swerve expressed their desire to challenge Joe for the AEW world title at Revolution, which led to a No. 1 contender’s match between them on the Feb. 7 episode of Dynamite.

Page and Strickland threw everything they had at each other for 30 grueling minutes, but no winner could be determined, resulting in a time-limit draw. Page denied Strickland’s request for five more minutes, calling into question who would face Joe.

The decision was made that both Hangman and Swerve would challenge Joe in a three-way match at Revolution, which didn’t seem to sit well with Joe or Page.

That match for the No. 1 contendership on Dynamite marked the third time Page and Strickland clashed in a one-on-one bout during their time in AEW.

Swerve was victorious each of the first two times, winning at WrestleDream and in a Texas Death Match at Full Gear in November.

While Page and Strickland were battling it out, Joe was positioning himself for a shot at the AEW World Championship, and he finally got one at Worlds End in December against MJF.

Joe acted as though he was aiding MJF in his feud with The Devil and his minions prior to Worlds End, but it was revealed before the event that Joe was actually working with The Devil.

He went on to beat MJF for the AEW World Championship at Worlds End, and it was revealed that Adam Cole was The Devil, flanked by Roderick Strong, Wardlow, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett.

Revolution marked Joe’s first pay-per-view title defense since winning the championship, and despite going up against two of the top contenders AEW has to offer, he was successful.
