Signing Gallagher remains a priority for Spurs

Signing Gallagher remains a priority for Spurs

Tottenham target Gallagher signing

Tottenham still hope to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher before the end of the transfer window.

They may have to offer £50 million, according to The Independent, if they are able to persuade the player to leave.

“Tottenham Hotspur are pressing ahead with plans to try and buy a No. 8 with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher still top of the list,” the paper writes.

“The next target comes after Spurs finally agreed a fee to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

“The £30m move for the Romanian defender means Ange Postecoglou has secured two of his three targets for this window, after completing a loan deal for Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

“Gallagher has been the player who best fits the profile, and Chelsea are willing to do a deal for the right price.

“That could be up to £50m, although there are more potential complications. Gallagher has emerged as one of the players Mauricio Pochettino most trusts for his tactical ideas, and he is seen as one of the few in the squad currently ideal for the Argentine’s 4-3-3 system.”

Marseille make Martial offer

Marseille are the latest club to offer to take Anthony Martial from Manchester United.

The Sun states that Fenerbahce were turned down by the Frenchman, and now Ligue 1 side Marseille are hoping to convince him to leave Old Trafford.

“Marseille have launched a frantic late bid to try and land Anthony Martial, SunSport has learned,” the paper reports.

“Reports today claimed the Frenchman is planning to see out his deal at Manchester United having snubbed a move to Fenerbahce.

“But Old Trafford sources say representatives from Marseille remain in touch with United over the chance of a loan move for Martial during this January transfer window.

“However, any deal relies on the player being willing to go back to his homeland, which could prove to be a sticking point.”

West Ham look for a new striker

With Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta injured, West Ham reportedly have a shortlist of potential replacements to strengthen their forward line.

Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, Sunderland winger Jack Clarke and Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn are all under consideration.

“West Ham are prioritising attacking reinforcements with urgency after Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta suffered injuries in last weekend’s underwhelming 1-1 FA Cup draw against Bristol City,” the Mirror writes.

“Bowen, who left the field gingerly at full-time accompanied by medical staff, is expected to be sidelined for between two and three weeks after picking up an ankle issue. The England international winger is set to miss the FA Cup replay at Ashton Gate and the Premier League trip to Sheffield United later this month on January 21.

“Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has also suffered bruising to his ribs and is due for further assessment this week. West Ham are in the market for a left-winger and have already added Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn and Sunderland winger Jack Clarke to their shortlist.

“Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson is another player that has been looked at by the Hammers in recent weeks though they’re yet to formalise interest in the 26-year-old Icelandic international.”

Newcastle hope to land Solanke

Newcastle have asked Bournemouth about the availability of forward Dominic Solanke.

The Telegraph writes that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, Solanke’s former manager at Bournemouth, wants to be reunited with the 26-year-old striker, but a January deal looks unlikely.

The paper says: “Newcastle have made an enquiry about Dominic Solanke but have been told that Bournemouth will not sell him this month.

“Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, has been in the market for a striker to bolster his attack for the second half of the season and is a long-term admirer of Solanke, having signed him while manager at the Vitality Stadium.

“The 26-year-old was signed from Liverpool five years ago in a £19 million deal and Bournemouth would stand to make a huge profit on their investment, but are determined to keep him at the club despite others showing interest.

“Solanke has led Andoni Iraola’s attack this season and has scored 13 goals in 22 appearances. Iraola is understood to be reluctant to let any of his strikers go as Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo are at the Africa Cup of Nations.”
