Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed his reason behind selecting Orlando Pirates teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng as part of his final 23-man squad.

The Belgian made a number of changes to his initial 36-man preliminary squad to face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in FIFA World Cup qualifiers next week.
The biggest standout from the selection has been that of Relebohile Mofokeng, the teenage sensation who has experienced a breakout season for the Buccaneers.
It appears that he has done enough to crack the nod for the men’s senior national team and now Broos has revealed why he has called up the youngster to his team.
“With young players you always have to be careful. When he played for Pirates, everybody said ‘wow that’s a guy with quality. But you can have a very good period and then you have a down period,” he told SABC during the squad announcement.

“But with him, he hasn’t had a bad period. He is there in every game and he has something – but you can’t explain it. He is not only doing offensive work, he is also doing defensive work. He is not tackling but his positioning is good.
“I think it would be crazy from my side not to take him with us even though he is only 19 and he doesn’t have international experience. But one day he would need to take the international experience, so we will see.
“He will not be with us as a standard player but maybe when things don’t go well in a game, you can put him in the last 20 minutes and he is a guy who can force something,” he said.
