Further insight has been given on Kaizer Chiefs new signing Edson Castillo.
The decision to sign Edson Castillo has been backed following the Venezuelan midfielder’s arrival in South Africa.
Chiefs have been following the 29-year-old for a while and have taken advantage of the opportunity to bring him on board on a free transfer after the expiry of his short-term deal with Monagas SC.

Castillo joined Monagas in February from Caracas and scored three goals in 16 appearances for playing from central midfield featuring the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stages and the Primera Division Venezolana.
Notable about Castillo is the fact that he has won six caps for Venezuela though his last came two years ago against Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers.
Castillo sat on the bench in the last World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in February last year.
At club level, the central midfielder has played in Azerbaijan for Neftchi Baku and has had a stint in Mexico with Club Atletico Zacatepec.
Two years ago, Castillo was reportedly offered to Zamalek.
“Edson is definitely a footballer capable of making a difference at Chiefs,” says one South American contact who has worked in South Africa before.
“This is someone who has been good enough to play at the Copa America so that should already provide you with all the answers.
“Edson is a top-class central midfielder who plays with authority that Chiefs have been crying out for.
“What will help him is that he is happy because he has given a good contract based on how the other South Americans at Chiefs were earning especially Leonardo Castro.
“Edson is a gem and will solve a lot of issues for the club.
“Once you have a midfielder who is as comfortable as him on the ball and also able to break up play then the team balance will be sorted.
“Chiefs will not have problems in central midfield this season as long as the misfortune of injuries doesn’t disturb him.
“I just hope he is going to be able to settle in quick enough because the DStv Premiership can be an awkward league at times.
“You will get games against teams that have no shape and just play township football.
“But I trust that he can do the job for Chiefs because I have been there and I’m familiar with PSL football,” says a source.
