Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has been advised on what he should have done against Mamelodi Sundowns and how he can learn from Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.
Petersen had a great shot-stopping performance for Chiefs in their 2-1 defeat against Sundowns but he was to blame for two goals conceded.

For the first goal Amakhosi conceded, the former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper tried to play through the press by passing to Edson Castillo, who was dispossessed close to the box so Sundowns then scored through Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
Ahead of the MTN8 quarter-final against his former side Sundowns, Swallows head coach Steve Komphela spoke about lessons he took from the Chiefs’ game against the Brazilians and suggested that when there’s a high press, Petersen should have gone long, something that Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine did well in Pirates’ 4-2 win over Royal AM.
“When Orlando Pirates were playing Royal AM, Sipho Chaine realised that, ‘Okay, there’s a press on (Nkosinathi) Sibisi, there’s press on (Tapelo) Xoki, my midfield is locked, they’ve gone one on one, what do I do?’ Komphela asked journalists at the MTN8 launch.
“Then he went long, the ball bounced behind the defence, (Zakhele) Lepasa got the ball (and scored), it’s an assist from the goalkeeper, it’s not the only one, it happens even for Man City. Ederson does that. It will happen more often,” he said.

However, the former Amakhosi coach went on and said that the supporters should embrace the evolution of goalkeepers, as more goals will still be conceded from a high press on the goalkeeper and the defence.
“And on top of that, there’s still gonna be a lot of goals conceded from a high press, losing the ball and conceding. You saw in the game when Mamelodi Sundowns were playing against Chiefs,” he said.
“High press, back pass to the keeper, trying to play the ball in the first line of defence, under pressure, a mistake committed, goal conceded. It happens, pre-season we conceded two of those against Orlando Pirates,” he added.
Chiefs will visit Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon at Athlone Stadium while Swallows travel to Mamelodi Sundowns in the same tournament on Saturday afternoon.
