Vosloorus community shaken after cash van bombed by thieves.
CASH-IN-TRANSIT robbers blew up a cash van in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday, 10 July.
It’s alleged that a group of 20 robbers were travelling in more than five cars, including a Mercedes-Benz and two BMWs, when the incident happened.
According to a witness, the thugs opened fire and closed off the road.
“The two security guards in the vehicle tried to run for cover. They were cornered by the heavily armed men who ordered them to lie on the ground.
“One of the robbers went to the cash car and put something that looked like an explosive,” he said.
The witness said the robbers went in different directions, and a few minutes later, there was an explosion.
“They blew up the cash van. They took the money and put it in the bags.
“These robbers had all the time to take all the money before speeding off in different directions,” he said.

The witness said that residents flocked into the cash van to get the money after the robbers were gone.
“There was nothing. The thugs had taken everything.
“My concern is that the residents tampered with the scene, and some could be arrested because of the fingerprints.”
Daily Sun spoke to one of the Fidelity guards investigating officials at the scene, who asked not to be named, and he confirmed the incident.
He said the guards who were in the van escaped unharmed, adding that a Fidelity guard technical official who was not part of the escort was shot and killed.
“Unfortunately, he was driving in the same direction as the colleague who was in a cash van when he was allegedly shot by the robbers,” he said.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed the incident and said cops are investigating a murder and robbery charges.
