Ten teachers and three others remembered after deadly accident.
THE families of 10 teachers who tragically lost their lives in a road accident while en route to work are struggling to come to terms with their loss.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, 28 May, when the taxi carrying the teachers collided head-on with a truck on the R521 road outside Polokwane, Limpopo, claiming 13 lives, including the taxi driver and two other drivers.
Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani and Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya visited the bereaved families on Friday, 31 May, to offer condolences and support.
Radzilani emphasised the government’s commitment to providing dignified funerals for the victims.
“This is because we are a government that cares very much for its people,” she said.
Radzilani said a preliminary accident report indicates that weather conditions may have been the cause of the accident.
“We’re waiting for officials to finalise the official report regarding the cause of the accident,” she said.

The dead have been identified, and their bodies have been released to their families.
Funeral arrangements are in place, with burials scheduled for the upcoming weekends and a memorial service set for Thursday, 6 June.
Lerule-Ramakhanya highlighted the invaluable contribution of the teachers to their pupils and the community.
Mary Mpyana, who lost two relatives, Asnath and Priscilla Mpyana from Makgodu Village, expressed her family’s heartbreak and gratitude for the support received.
“Please be with us and support us wherever you are. Asnath and Priscilla loved God and knew prayer. God gave us and has also taken them away from us,” she said.
She asked for prayers so they could have strength.
“They left young children, and we don’t know how we will raise them. But we believe with God we will make it,” she said.
